O vegetable oils and its prominence in the foreign market
The oil market has been one of the most promising in Brazil, being one of the fastest growing in the world, according to data from ABIA (Brazilian Food Industry Association), there was a harvest of 197 million tons in 2017 and 2018 and also it was the sector that stood out the most in real sales in these years, with an increase of 12%. Those responsible for this increase were soy, palm, sunflower and peanut oils.
Growing market
Soy is already a product of great importance in the Brazilian economy and with the increase in its production, so does its form in oil, which according to the Ministry of Agriculture, consumption should increase by 28.1% over the next 8 years. This will continue to make Brazil a of the leaders in this market.
The strong rise of palm oil
Palm oil is one of the most important in Brazil, as it is used in the production of several products, such as palm oil, cookies, bread, ice cream, beauty products, biofuels and bioenergy. It has been gaining more prominence in Brazil, having produced 350 thousand tons in 2017/2018, according to the Brazilian Association of Palm Oil Producers (ABRAPALMA), and being among the 10 largest producers in the world.
Sunflower oil as a healthy alternative
The sunflower seed, which contains the oil, has been increasingly used in the production of other products such as food, biofuels, animal feed, cosmetics and even medicines, and has been gaining prominence in groups vegans and fitness for being a healthier alternative to soy oil and for containing vitamin E and fatty acids. It corresponds to 13% of all oil produced in the world and is mainly consumed abroad.
The high and discreet growth of peanut oil
Finally, peanut oil, despite being little produced, manages to find space in the national market, being one of those responsible for high income generation in agriculture, as evidenced by a MAPA report. The same has also been growing internationally, according to a survey by the Agricultural Economics Institute, the volume of peanut exports grew 35% compared to 2017, totaling US$ 230 million.
