Industrialized Breads: delights for the palate and Brazilian exports

Whether for breakfast, afternoon snack or dinner with a plate of soup, breads are a staple in the diet and occupy the position of one of the most consumed products in Brazil and in the world. According to the French baker Oliver Anquier, bread was one of the first recipes discovered by ancient civilization and, to this day, the product continues to renew itself, always present in practically every meal we make.

In addition to the conventional dough made with white wheat flour, other types of industrialized breads have gained prominence on consumers' tables. The international market has adapted to this new demand and is increasingly opening up to the trade of these differentiated pastas, such as whole grains and with different cereals.

Brazil as a standout in world exports

Brazil is a major exporter of processed bread: according to a study carried out by the Brazilian Association of Biscuit, Pasta and Industrialized Bread & Cake Industries (ABIMAPI) with data from Comex Stat, the country is the 11th largest exporter in the world, with around 400 thousand tons exported, which in 2018 generated US$5.2 million to Brazilian exporters.

Main buyers of Brazilian breads

The sector's growth expectation internationally is great for the future. Only in the first half of 2019, according to ABIMAPI, there was an advance in the sector of industrialized cakes and breads by 3% in the monetary value of exports compared to the same period of the previous year. Among the biggest consumers of these Brazilian products, Paraguay and the United States stand out, being the destinations of, on average, 50% of national products.

The importance of assistance from an international consultancy

However, according to Cláudio Zanão, executive president of ABIMAPI, the good performance of national exports depends on investment in shares and on the search for opportunities abroad. In this way, a study of the intended market, with a good base of information about the sector at the international level, is essential for a relevant insertion in the destination of national bread exports.
